About Us

Yuka is a passionate community leader and food advocate with a deep commitment to fostering a diverse and sustainable food culture in the Bow Valley. Originally from Japan, she has made this stunning region her home for many years, bringing with her a wealth of culinary experience. Having run a successful catering business and taught cooking classes, Yuka has honed her skills in the kitchen while building a strong understanding of how food can bring people together and support local economies.

She is currently focused on creating a purpose-built commercial kitchen to support and promote local food production in the Bow Valley. Through this initiative, Yuka aims to empower local entrepreneurs, enhance culinary diversity, and build a more inclusive food movement that serves the needs of the entire community. Her vision is to create opportunities for people of all backgrounds to engage with and benefit from a thriving local food ecosystem.

Outside of her professional work, Yuka is a proud mother, wife, and outdoor enthusiast. She enjoys hiking and skiing in the beautiful landscapes of the Bow Valley, finding peace and inspiration in the region’s natural beauty. A lover of English Breakfast tea, she often enjoys a warm cup as a quiet moment of relaxation amidst her busy schedule.

Ed is Yuka’s life partner of 25 years and now her business partner through The Co+Kitchen, where he is equally passionate about supporting locally produced food and fostering community connections. With a deep belief in the power of collaboration, Ed is dedicated to advancing the local food movement in the Bow Valley, helping The Co+Kitchen and its members grow and thrive.

When he’s not working on local food initiatives, Ed is focused on advancing Canada’s energy transition. Through his boutique consultancy, Whit & Ham, he supports the development of clean energy projects for a range of clean tech clients. Ed is also the host of Energy vs Climate, Canada’s most popular podcast on climate and energy issues. His background includes serving as the executive director of the Pembina Institute, a leading Canadian clean energy think tank, where he worked to promote sustainable energy solutions nationwide.

Like Yuka, Ed is a proud parent to their two children and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities. Whether it’s hiking, skiing, white water paddle boarding, or hunting, Ed values time spent in nature and believes in the importance of preserving the environment for future generations.
